Stephen Harper's Desperate War with the White House

Well I never said the end of the Con regime would be pretty eh?

But who knew it would be so humiliating? Such a crude awakening.

Call it a crude awakening. One can only imagine Stephen Harper’s expression when one of the PMO’s boys in short pants emailed him the New York Times’ recent interview with President Barack Obama, published Saturday.

In the 40-minute exchange, Obama dumped all over Harper’s pet project, the Keystone XL pipeline. Correction: he scoffed at the job numbers, fretted that the project might raise oil prices, minimized its energy security benefit as mere “potential”, and threw the approval process right into the lap of the Prime Minister, telling him that unless Canada does more to reduce carbon emissions from the oil sands, Keystone is good as dead.

Or that Obama would LAUGH at Harper for claiming, like his fellow Republicans, that the Keystone pipeline would create 40,000 jobs.

“Republicans have said that this would be a big jobs generator. There is no evidence that that’s true,” said Obama. “The most realistic estimates are this might create maybe 2,000 jobs during the construction of the pipeline — which might take a year or two — and then after that we’re talking about somewhere between 50 and 100 (chuckles) jobs in a economy of 150 million working people.”

Golly. I bet poor old Harpo was as shocked and as awed as Ezra Levant...

Especially since Harper, as Paul Wells points out, is doing everything to undermine his own cause.

Since Obama’s big clanging yellow light of a speech, Harper has responded by putting the quietest wee mouse in cabinet, Leona Aglukkaq, in the environment post and then kicking her off the cabinet committee on the economy, on which her predecessor sat. That committee used to be called the “Committee on Economic Prosperity and Sustainable Growth.” Now it’s called the “Committee on Economic Prosperity.” See what they did there? Let me break this to you gently: they noticed at the U.S. Embassy.

And you know things are DESPERATE when old Brucie Carson is telling Great Economist Buffoon Leader to get down on his knees and kiss Obama's ass:

If the PM wants to save this project it is time for him to intervene and that means picking up the phone, have a frank conversation with the President, find out what needs to be done and then do it. That’s what leaders do.

And of course this isn't helping.

Bitumen emulsion continues to leak into a section of Boreal forest in northeast Alberta owned by Canada's military, raising concerns about "huff and puff" extraction technology as industry experts attempt to determine the cause of the ongoing spill.

Not when it's bubbling out of the ground and they can't STOP IT !!!!

Although to be fair, asking Stephen Harper to act like a real environmentalist is probably asking a bit too much eh? When he's spent the last seven years trying to torch the planet.

And of course now he can't even tell Obama "Who needs your pipeline when we got POTASH !!!"

Shares of major North American potash producers fell sharply Tuesday on word that a Russian company is pulling out of a marketing group and is expected to undercut competitors' prices for the fertilizer.

Because it's going south, and taking Saskatchewan with it.

And the good news?

If after putting all our eggs in the same basket, if after destroying all those good jobs, the commodity market goes BUST.

We're all going down eh?

But Stephen Harper's going too...

Because it's the economy STOOPID !!!

Obama, Obama, did you hear the one about the 40-thousand fifty jobs?

HA HA HA HA HA....

Good one Simon. And the orange pimp hat and coat are much better attire for the HarperCONS...the little shearling coat belongs to Darwin. I would say no clothes at all as in the emporer, but YUCK! Maybe you could blur it.

Trudeau has a golden opportunity, right here, right now to put the ball and chain around harper that he is not at all about creating jobs, he is about maximizing profits, even Obama sees through the bullshit. Here that harper, there is a difference between 40 K and 50 .

Now all we've got to hope for is that Justin has big enough cajones to go after harper on this issue. Trudeau has blown a lot of good opportunities thus far. If he wants to beat the con cabal, he needs to get much more aggressive. Fuck the high road. Kick that bastard harper while he's vulnerable and worry about sportsmanlike conduct after he's P.M.
