The Day the Premiers Gave Stephen Harper a Slap in the Face

He thought he could disrespect all those dead and missing aboriginal women. He thought he could treat that holocaust as just random acts of violence.

He thought he could use his callous position to appeal to his bigot base.

He thought he could get away with it.

But today Canada's Premiers gave him a stinging slap in the face.

With the door slammed shut on a national public inquiry, Canada's premiers and aboriginal leaders are calling on the federal government to compromise and have key ministers meet with them to discuss the issue of missing and murdered aboriginal women.

Tom Mulcair promised to do the right thing.

Mulcair said his party will call a national inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women within 100 days in power.

“Enough is enough. (Prime Minister) Stephen Harper has made it clear he has no intention of doing the right thing,” said Mulcair in his statement. “But I can promise that if the NDP forms government in 2015 we will launch an investigation into murdered and missing Indigenous women.”

And don't you just LOVE this message to Harper from Robert Ghiz?

If Prime Minister Stephen Harper won’t call an inquiry into the problem of murdered and missing aboriginal women, Canadians should get a new prime minister, says the incoming chairman of the Council of the Federation.

On his way into a meeting with leaders of First Nations and aboriginal groups Prince Edward Island Premier Robert Ghiz was asked how to get around Harper’s refusal to date to even consider an inquiry to get to the bottom of why so many aboriginal women across Canada are missing or have been murdered.

“I guess there are two ways to change his mind,” Ghiz replied. “One would be he has to do that himself. Or two, there’s a new prime minister.”

Old Joe would have been so proud of him. And do we love P.E.I. or what ?!!!!

You know, for too long the Premiers allowed Harper and his grotesque un-Canadian Con regime to bully them and treat them with contempt.

But that's changing now, now they're fighting back, fighting him on everything from pensions to medicare. Because as Mulcair said, enough is ENOUGH.

And with their support we will defeat that cruel monster.

The deaths of all those women will not be in vain.

There will be justice. Or a new beginning. At last.

And after the next election the man who would betray our Canadian values.

Will be missing himself...

There is the, Highway of Tears in BC. F.N. people still walk that highway, looking for their daughters, cousins, aunts, nieces and for all of their lost loved ones. I am so very sorry for the F.N. families, that Harper doesn't seem to think the F.N. deserve closure. So, these F.N. families are left to grieve forever, for those they have lost.

The F.N. people, certainly have my respect, sympathy and support.

hi anon...yes I know about the Highway of Tears, and there couldn't be a more tragic place. Which is why I don't think we can bury our heads in the sand, and not realize that we need to confront that horror, and work as hard as we can can to help give our beautiful First Nations a new beginning...

I loved Ghiz's comment. Quess we know where he now stands. Few more comments like that from a few more premiers and harper and his herd really could be toast.
Between the neglect of Veterans and First Nations women, harper has said it all. It clearly demonstrates what he is all about. For some like Ghiz, enough may be enough.
